Description
Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coating, also known as fusion-bond epoxy powder coating, is an epoxy-based powder coating extensively utilized for protecting steel pipes in pipeline construction from corrosion. This durable coating is applied as a dry powder, which is then heated to create a strong, impermeable bond with the steel surface.
FBE coating is favored for its excellent adhesion, chemical resistance, and ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions, making it an ideal solution for both onshore and offshore pipelines. Its application enhances the longevity and integrity of steel pipes, ensuring reliable performance in various industries, including oil and gas, water distribution, and infrastructure development.
FBE Coating Application Process
The application of Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) powder coating consists of three essential stages:

Surface Cleaning:
- The steel surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove contaminants, such as rust, oil, and dirt. This step ensures optimal adhesion of the FBE coating.

Heating:
- The cleaned metal part is heated to the recommended temperature for FBE powder application. This preheating activates the epoxy powder, preparing it for effective bonding during application.

Application and Curing:
- The FBE powder is applied evenly to the heated surface using electrostatic spray guns. After application, the coated piece is transferred to a curing oven, where the powder melts and chemically bonds to the steel, forming a strong, protective layer.
This process ensures a durable, corrosion-resistant coating that enhances the longevity of steel pipes in various applications.
