Distinctive features of 316L stainless steel sheet

Excellent corrosion resistance: 316L contains molybdenum element, which makes it highly resistant to corrosion to chloride solutions, marine environments and acidic media. In marine engineering, such as ship structural components and offshore platform equipment, they can effectively resist seawater erosion.

Good heat resistance: able to maintain stable performance at higher temperatures, suitable for some high-temperature working environments

Low carbon content: The carbon content is low, generally no more than 0.03%, which reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion and improves the stability of the material during welding and high-temperature use

Difference between 304 and 316

Chemical composition:

The main chemical composition of 304 stainless steel plate is chromium (Cr) 18% - 20%, nickel (Ni) 8% - 10.5%
On this basis, 316 stainless steel plate adds 2% - 3% molybdenum (Mo) element, and the nickel content is also higher, generally 10% - 14%

Corrosion resistance:

304 stainless steel plate has good corrosion resistance and can resist corrosion from most organic and inorganic acids.
Because 316 stainless steel plate contains molybdenum element, it is more resistant to chloride corrosion and is particularly suitable for highly corrosive environments such as marine and chemical industries. For example, in seawater, the corrosion resistance of 316 stainless steel plate is significantly better than that of 304 stainless steel plate
 

Price:

Because the alloy composition of 316 stainless steel plate is more complex and the cost is higher, the price is usually higher than that of 304 stainless steel plate.
 

Strength and Hardness:

In general, the strength and hardness of 316 stainless steel plate is slightly higher than that of 304 stainless steel plate.
