Product Description
Steel Box Girder Bridge Overview
Steel box girder bridges are advanced modular structures composed of top plate (bridge panel), beam web, bottom plate, longitudinal stiffeners, transverse stiffeners, and diaphragm plates (cross beams). These bridges feature plate thicknesses ranging from 12-30mm for main components and 10-20mm for secondary plates.
Manufacturing & Construction
Manufacturing typically occurs in factory sections (10-30m lengths depending on transportation and hoisting conditions) with final site welding. Factory welding is prioritized to ensure superior weld quality with strict quality control protocols.
Orthotropic Steel Bridge Panels
The top plate features welded vertical and horizontal stiffeners forming an orthogonal bridge panel system. Longitudinal ribs are available in both open and closed section forms, typically featuring inverted T-shape cross-sections.
Structural Configurations
Single Box Steel Beam Bridge
Ideal for bridges with smaller widths (3 lanes) or width-to-span ratios less than 1/10. For 4-6 lane applications, double-width single box girder configurations are recommended. Features include:
- Effective flange width: main beam web interval ≤ Le/5
- Main beam cantilever length ≤ Le/10
- Beam spacing: 1.5-3m (open rib) or 2-4m (closed rib)
Double Box Steel Girder Bridge
Suitable for wider bridges or when single box dimensions become impractical for production, transportation, or installation. Beam configurations can be set or omitted based on project requirements.
Multi-Box Steel Girder Bridge
Optimal for smaller spans with larger bridge widths. Main beams are uniformly spaced to ensure balanced load distribution across all structural elements.
Structural Components & Features
Longitudinal Beams
Reduce reinforced concrete bridge panel spans and enhance steel bridge panel stiffness. Spacing typically does not exceed 3m for reinforced concrete panels.
Transverse Beams
Ensure even stress distribution across multiple boxes, support longitudinal beams or bridge panels, and enhance overall torsional resistance. Spacing varies from ≤6m (with longitudinal beams) to maximum 20m (without longitudinal beams).
Support Systems
Single-box bridges require two end supports for structural stability and torque resistance. Multi-box configurations typically feature one support per steel box, with temporary fulcrums for jack support during construction.
Mechanical Characteristics
Steel box girders provide exceptional resistance to bending moments, torsion, and concentrated forces. The closed section design offers superior corrosion protection and accommodates utility installations.
Structural Protection Measures
Comprehensive stiffening systems prevent:
- Compression flange instability and bending failure
- Box girder distortion under torque
- Web crumpling under concentrated forces
Key Advantages
- Lightweight construction with significant steel savings
- High flexural and torsional stiffness
- Simple, aesthetically pleasing structural design
- Large flange width for superior bending resistance
- Excellent overall stability and rapid construction
- Hollow structure for easy utility installation and maintenance
- Ideal for curved bridges with uniform lateral load distribution
