Primary Deoxidizer Types
Core deoxidizers include silicon aluminum barium calcium iron, silicon calcium cored wire, aluminum wire, aluminum manganese iron, steel core aluminum, calcium carbide, and silicon carbide. These materials react with dissolved oxygen in molten iron, generating non-metallic compounds that precipitate and float to the slag layer for removal, resulting in purified molten iron.

Steelmaking Application Process
Converter operations typically utilize Fe Mn, Fe Si, Mn Si alloy, Ca Si alloy, aluminum, Fe Al, and composite deoxidizers. Strategic addition timing ensures optimal performance:
- Initial deoxidizers (silicon iron, silicon manganese, silicon carbide) added to ladle bottom
- Composite alloys added when one-third of molten steel is transferred
- Final deoxidizers (aluminum, silicon calcium alloys) added at two-thirds transfer point
Technical Specifications & Formulations
Si/Mn Deoxidation System
Generates solid phase SiO2, liquid phase MnO-SiO2, and MnO-FeO solid solutions. Proper ω[Mn]/ω[Si] ratio control enables liquid phase MnO-SiO2 formation for efficient inclusion removal.
S+Mn+Al Deoxidation System
Produces roseite (2MnO-Al2O3-5SiO2), silicon aluminum garnet (3MnO-Al2O3-3SiO2), and Al2O3. Maintains steel ω[Al] ≤ 0.006% to prevent Al2O3 precipitation, ensuring excellent castability without nozzle blockage or subsurface porosity.
Excess Aluminum Deoxidation
For low-carbon aluminum killed steel with 0.02-0.04% acid soluble aluminum, generates solid Al2O3 with 2050°C melting point. Calcium treatment via Si-Ca or Ca wire injection transforms Al2O3 into low-melting 2CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 for improved floatation and steel purification.
Silicon Aluminum Barium Calcium Composite Deoxidizer
This premium barium-based alloy serves as both deoxidizer and desulfurizer, minimizing oxygen content while forming complex oxides that readily float from molten steel, enhancing impact toughness and processing performance.
