The Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system is a water treatment process designed to clarify wastewater by removing suspended matter such as oil, grease, and solids. This system effectively reduces COD levels while improving water quality.
DAF System Overview
The process involves dissolving air in water under pressure and releasing it at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank. The released air forms microbubbles that adhere to suspended matter, causing it to float to the surface where it can be removed by skimming.
Working Process
- Wastewater enters coagulation and flocculation tanks where chemicals (PAC and PAM) form flocs
- Treated water and dissolved air enter the DAF tank's reaction zone
- Microbubbles adhere to flocs, forming particles that float to the surface
- Surface scum is scraped into a slag tank while clean water is collected below
- A portion of clean water is recirculated to maintain the dissolved air supply
