Woodfree Uncoated Paper (WFU), also referred to as uncoated woodfree paper (UWF) or uncoated fine papers, is produced from wood that has undergone processing into chemical pulp, effectively removing lignin from the wood fibers. This type of paper may include 5–25% fillers. It utilizes both softwood and hardwood chemical pulps, and a small proportion of mechanical pulp (commonly sourced from aspen or poplar) may be incorporated. These grades of paper are calendered for smoothness.
