In the converter, open furnace or electric furnace, the first refined steel is moved to another container for refining the metallurgical process, also known as "ladle metallurgy" or "secondary metallurgy", that is, the traditional steelmaking process is divided into two steps, the primary smelting and refining, the primary smelting charge in the oxidizing atmosphere of the furnace for melting, dephosphorization, desulfurization, removal of impurities and main alloying, to obtain the primary steelmaking liquid. Refining is the process of degassing, deoxidizing, desulphurizing, removing inclusions and fine-tuning composition of molten steel in vacuum, inert gas or reductive atmosphere. Out-of-furnace refining can improve the steel quality, shorten the smelting time, optimize the process and reduce the production cost.
