Monel 400/K-500 Corrosion Resistant Steel Plate For Chemical Process Industry
Nickel Alloy Sheets Monel 400/K-500 Corrosion Resistant Nickel Alloys Plates Chemical Process Industry
Monel 400 and Monel K-500 are types of corrosion-resistant alloys commonly used in various industrial applications, including the chemical, oil, and marine industries. They belong to the wider family of Monel alloys, which are trademarked by Special Metals Corporation. The two vary in composition and have different properties, making them suitable for specific applications.
Monel 400:
- Material: Predominantly composed of nickel (up to 67%) and copper, with small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon.
- Key Properties: It offers excellent corrosion resistance in many environments, especially against flowing seawater and in the presence of acids. It's also known for its high strength and good weldability.
- Applications: Used in marine applications, chemical equipment, heat exchangers, valves, and many other types of industrial equipment.
Monel K-500:
- Material: This is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with added advantages of greater strength and hardness.
- Key Properties: K-500 boasts excellent mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures and can be used in temperatures up to 480 degrees Celsius. It also demonstrates outstanding resistance to high-velocity sea water.
- Applications: K-500 is used for a variety of applications where its higher strength and hardness might be required, including pump shafts, impellers, doctors blades and scrapers, oil well drill collars and instruments, and electronic components.
Both sheets of Monel 400 and K-500 are available in a range of sizes and thicknesses. They can be further processed by standard fabrication techniques which include hot forming, cold working, and machining. It's important to keep in mind that while Monel alloys are known for their excellent corrosion resistivity, they can still experience corrosion in some extreme or specific environments. Always consider these aspects when selecting the appropriate material for your application.
