Grade F51 UNS S31803 Duplex Steel Seamless Pipes The Perfect Solution for Environmental Pollution Control
Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe F51 UNS S31803 Duplex Steel Seamless Pipes
Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe F51, also known as UNS S31803, is a duplex stainless steel grade that combines the benefits of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. This dual-phase microstructure provides excellent mechanical properties, high corrosion resistance, and good weldability, making it suitable for a wide range of demanding applications.
Material Composition:
The chemical composition of UNS S31803 (F51) typically includes:
- Chromium (Cr): 21.0 - 23.0%
- Nickel (Ni): 4.5 - 6.5%
- Molybdenum (Mo): 2.5 - 3.5%
- Manganese (Mn): ≤ 2.0%
- Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.0%
- Nitrogen (N): 0.08 - 0.20%
- Carbon (C): ≤ 0.03%
- Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.03%
- Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.02%
- Iron (Fe): Balance

Key Properties:
High Corrosion Resistance:
UNS S31803 offers excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), particularly in chloride-containing environments.
It is highly resistant to corrosion in acidic, alkaline, and saline environments.
High Strength:
The duplex structure provides higher tensile and yield strength compared to standard austenitic stainless steels, such as 304 or 316.
Typical tensile strength ranges from 620 to 900 MPa, and yield strength ranges from 450 to 620 MPa.
Good Weldability:
UNS S31803 can be welded using common welding techniques, such as TIG, MIG, and SAW, with appropriate filler materials.
Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required.
Excellent Toughness:
The duplex structure provides good toughness and ductility, even at low temperatures.
Resistance to Erosion and Abrasion:
The high chromium and molybdenum content enhances resistance to erosion and abrasion, making it suitable for use in harsh environments.
Applications:
Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe F51 / UNS S31803 is widely used in industries that require high strength and corrosion resistance, including:
- Oil and Gas Industry: For pipelines, risers, and subsea equipment exposed to corrosive environments.
- Chemical Processing: For handling corrosive chemicals, acids, and solvents.
- Petrochemical Industry: In heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and reactors.
- Desalination Plants: For seawater handling and desalination equipment.
- Pulp and Paper Industry: In digesters, bleach plants, and other corrosive environments.
- Marine and Offshore Applications: For components exposed to seawater and marine atmospheres.
-
Standards and Specifications:
- ASTM A790/A790M: Standard specification for seamless and welded duplex stainless steel pipes.
- ASME SA790: Similar to ASTM A790, used for pressure vessel applications.
- EN 10216-5: European standard for seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes.
- NACE MR0175/ISO 15156: For materials suitable for use in H2S-containing environments in oil and gas production.
-
Advantages:
- Superior corrosion resistance compared to standard austenitic stainless steels.
- High strength-to-weight ratio, reducing material thickness and weight.
- Cost-effective alternative to high-nickel alloys and super duplex stainless steels.
- Long service life in aggressive environments, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
