Product Description

Inconel 625 Nickel Alloy – High-Strength Nickel Alloy for Extreme Applications

Inconel 625 is a nickel-based superalloy known for its exceptional strength, outstanding corrosion resistance, and excellent performance in extreme environments. Its unique combination of nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and niobium makes it ideal for aerospace, marine, and chemical processing industries.

Manufacturing Process

1. Raw Material Preparation

The production of Inconel 625 begins with the precise selection and weighing of high-purity raw materials — nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and niobium. These alloying elements are accurately proportioned to ensure the desired chemical composition that meets ASTM, AMS, or ASME standards.

2. Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM)

The materials are melted under vacuum conditions using Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) to prevent contamination and to ensure high purity. This step guarantees uniform alloying and reduces inclusions, resulting in excellent metallurgical quality.

3. Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR)

To further refine the ingot, a secondary melting process — Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) — is performed. VAR enhances the alloy’s cleanliness, homogeneity, and structural integrity, producing a dense and defect-free microstructure suitable for critical components.

4. Forging or Rolling Process

After melting, the ingot is preheated and subjected to open-die forging or hot rolling. These processes improve grain structure and mechanical properties. Depending on the final product form, the alloy may be forged into round bars, rings, or discs, or rolled into sheets and plates.

5. Heat Treatment

To optimize mechanical properties, Inconel 625 undergoes a solution annealing process at temperatures around 1100°C, followed by rapid quenching. This heat treatment stabilizes the microstructure, enhances corrosion resistance, and improves toughness.

6. Precision Machining

After heat treatment, components are CNC machined to achieve tight dimensional tolerances. Due to the alloy’s high strength and work hardening tendency, specialized cutting tools and cooling systems are used to maintain precision and surface quality.

7. Non-Destructive Testing & Quality Inspection

Every batch undergoes ultrasonic testing (UT), X-ray inspection, and chemical composition analysis (via spectrometer) to verify internal integrity and compliance with international standards such as ASTM B443, B446, or B564. Mechanical tests (tensile, hardness, impact) are also conducted to ensure reliability.

8. Final Finishing & Surface Treatment

Depending on the application, the material can be pickled, polished, or ground to achieve a smooth, corrosion-resistant surface. The finished products are then carefully packaged for global shipment.

Applications

  • Aerospace components (turbine blades, exhaust systems)

  • Chemical processing equipment (heat exchangers, reactors)

  • Marine engineering (subsea pipelines, fasteners)

  • Power generation and nuclear industries
