Gate valves are typically operated by rotating a handwheel or using bevel gear actuators, pneumatic actuators, or motorized actuators to rotate a threaded stem. When fully open, fluid passes through the valve unhindered with minimal pressure drop. When closed, the gate completely blocks the fluid passage for reliable shut-off.
