1. United Expansion Joint

The single united expansion joint also known as single axial internal-pressure-type expansion joint,it consists of a bellows and supporting structure. It utilizes the flexible deformation of the bellows to absorb axial displacement as well as a small amount of lateral and angular displacement in the pipeline. It does not restrict pressure thrust, hence requiring adequate anchor bolts and guiding devices. The small tie rod on the expansion joint serves as rigid support or deformation adjustment during transportation and should not be used as a stressed tie rod for balancing pressure thrust. This type of structure is simple, cost-effective, so that should be considered with high priority wherever applicable in pipeline installations.

2. Universal Untied Expansion Joint

The universal united expansion joint is composed of two bellows and structural components connected by an intermediate pipe. It is primarily used to absorb combined axial and lateral displacement and cannot withstand pressure thrust from the bellows. This design allows for significant lateral deflection.

Universal united expansion joint do not restrict pressure thrust, thus requiring sufficient anchor and guiding apparatus.
