Mullite bricks are high alumina refractory products with mullite (3Al2O3·2SiO2) as the main crystal phase. The content of aluminum oxide is 65%~75%. When the aluminum oxide content of the product is lower than the theoretical composition of mullite, there is a small amount of cristobalite; when the aluminum oxide content of the product is higher than the theoretical composition of mullite, a small amount of corundum exists. The products are divided into sintered mullite bricks and fused (or called fusion casting) mullite bricks.
Application
Although the price of mullite brick is much higher than that of high alumina brick, its superior performance determines its wide use. The properties of mullite refractory bricks are mainly determined by the properties of mullite. It has high refractoriness, high softening temperature under load, low high temperature creep rate, excellent thermal vibration resistance, slag erosion resistance, high shear modulus, etc. Mullite refractory bricks have a wide range of uses, mainly used in high temperature hot blast stoves, large blast furnace hearths and bottoms, steel-making electric furnace tops, ceramic industrial kiln linings, kiln furniture, and glass kiln cement kiln etc.
