2.4-liter Mitsubishi 4G64 (or G64B) gasoline engine has been in production since 1985. It is installed not only on a number of models of the Japanese concern, but also on cars from other manufacturers. This power unit was used for some time by Hyundai under the name G4JS.

Until 1997, this engine had only one camshaft and conventional multipoint fuel injection. But high technologies, namely GDI, touched in the end and him. Direct fuel injection plus an extra camshaft brought in an additional 37 horsepower and the inherent complications associated with the GDI system.

The 4G6 family also includes engines: 4G61, 4G62, 4G63, 4G63T, 4G67 and 4G69.
