Product Description
XHGG502 Cable Fault Pre Locator

The XHGG502 is a portable, industrial-grade cable fault pre locator that measures and analyzes power cable status and fault distance using the traveling wave (TDR) method. Built around a 12.1-inch industrial-grade touchscreen computer and a dedicated cable management software, it combines the low-voltage pulse method, the high-voltage flashover method and the advanced multiple pulse (eight-pulse) method in one instrument. It pre-locates low-resistance, short-circuit, open-circuit and disconnection faults, as well as high-resistance leakage and flashover faults, on XLPE, PVC, rubber-sheathed and oil-impregnated paper cables of 35kV and below, together with high-frequency coaxial cables, local telephone cables, street-light cables and buried wires.

Applications & Target Audience
Purpose-built for professional cable fault pre-location service providers, high-voltage cable commissioning and acceptance-test teams of power engineering contractors, and cable manufacturer after-sales groups who need reliable fault distance pre-location and automatic test reporting on 35kV and below XLPE distribution cables.

Advanced Features

12.1-inch industrial-grade computer control with touch operation

Embedded operating system with a powerful cable management system and automatic report generation

Measures cable wave velocity and fault distance

Fully automatic continuous sampling that never misses a discharge waveform

Adopts the latest embedded industrial computer and the world’s most advanced eight-pulse (multiple pulse) test technology, together with the impulse high-voltage flashover method and the low-voltage pulse method

Any high-resistance fault presents the simplest waveform characteristics similar to a low-voltage pulse short-circuit fault, making it very easy to interpret

The reflected signal sent by the pulse coupler is automatically displayed, and the full-length waveform of the cable open circuit is shown at the same time

Mass waveform storage: field waveforms can be stored in a prescribed order and recalled at any time, with handwriting annotation of test personnel, locations and fault characteristics

Ultra-high brightness large LCD readable in direct sunlight, with powerful data processing and a friendly interface

Standard USB interface for data export, and supports waveform printing

Extremely safe high-voltage protection measures so the tester will not crash or be damaged in an impulse high-voltage environment

Built-in large-capacity lithium battery for open-circuit and low-resistance short-circuit testing in a power-free environment

Standard Configuration

Each XHGG502 ships as a complete pre-location kit, so a field team can switch between the low-voltage pulse, high-voltage flashover and multiple pulse methods without sourcing extra parts.

FAQ
Q1: What cable faults can the XHGG502 pre-locate?
It pre-locates low-resistance, short-circuit, open-circuit and disconnection faults, as well as high-resistance leakage and flashover faults, on XLPE, PVC, rubber-sheathed and oil-impregnated paper cables of 35kV and below, plus high-frequency coaxial cables, local telephone cables, street-light cables and buried wires.
Q2: How far and how accurately can it measure?
The ranging range is (up to) 68km with a minimum resolution of 0.1m, a test blind spot of 10m or less, and a measurement error of no more than (0.5% x L + 1m), where L is the cable length; three length ranges are provided (<1km, <3km, >3km).
Q3: Which test methods does it support?
It supports the low-voltage pulse method, the high-voltage flashover method and the multiple pulse (eight-pulse) method, all selectable from the touchscreen interface.
Q4: Can it work without mains power on site?
Yes. A built-in 10400mAh lithium battery supports field testing, and the battery charges from AC 110-240V. Low-voltage pulse testing may run on AC 220V, but high-voltage flashover and multiple pulse sampling must not be performed while the instrument is charging.
Q5: How are test waveforms stored and exported?
Sampling runs at 400MHz with fully automatic continuous capture; waveforms can be stored in a prescribed order with handwritten annotations, recalled at any time, and exported or printed through the standard USB interface.

Note: It is strictly forbidden to connect AC 220V power when running high-voltage flashover or multiple pulse sampling tests. Coupler high-voltage lines can only be plugged and unplugged, and must never be rotated or twisted.
