1. Heat Treatment Designations
What is the difference in the designation of common heat-treated aluminum alloys?
- F: As fabricated means that no special treatment is applied after cold working, hot working or casting.
- O: Annealed indicates wrought products annealed to strength level, and cast products annealed to increase ductility and dimensional stability.
- H: Strain Hardened indicates forged products that have been processed and deformed.
- W: Solution heat treated: indicates only solid solution treatment after natural aging W1/2 hr.
- T: Heat treated to produce stable tempers other than F, O, or H.
