Our stainless steel bolts offer excellent hardness and durability. The properties can be enhanced through:
- Carbon addition for increased hardness/rigidity
- Chromium for balanced hardness and toughness
- Titanium for improved hardness and toughness
Common bolts are silver white, silver grey, yellow and black. Most of these colours are for cosmetic or environmental considerations, and Mechanical Finance has reservations about whether or not they improve corrosion resistance.
Mechanical Finance believes that the corrosion resistance of bolts can be improved by using more advanced surface treatments, such as changing from electroplating to hot-dip zinc or Dacromet. Simply changing the colour may change the corrosion protection slightly, but the corrosion protection is still within the same order of magnitude.
For example, zinc plating can be yellow zinc, coloured zinc or silver-white zinc, but the order of magnitude of the corrosion protection is still the same, and the general zinc plating process on the market is still in the salt spray test for about 70 hours.
Again, such as the use of non-electrolytic zinc sheet processing methods, can be silver grey, or special treatment for the black, if the coating thickness is the same, its anti-corrosion order of magnitude is also nothing special, salt spray test at 900 hours 200 hours
