Cap nuts are used in the same way as hexagonal nuts. They are characterised by the fact that the main nut does not slide easily, but can only be tightened with a live spanner, a dull spanner, a dual-purpose spanner (open part) or a special square-hole socket spanner.

They are mainly used for rough and simple parts, in tyres and front and rear axles of cars, tricycles, electric cars, etc. They are also used for fixing the bases of road light frames and some mechanical equipments which are often exposed to sunlight and rain.
