Melaleuca alternifolia (Maiden & Betche) Cheel is a species of the Myrtaceae family, belonging to the genus Melaleuca, a kind of evergreen small tree, reaching heights of 10-15 meters with a trunk diameter of 10-20 centimeters. The tree trunk is knobby and curved, with grayish-white bark; the leaves are alternate, lanceolate, 3-4 centimeters long, lacking distinct veins, and cuneate at the base.
Note: The Australian tea tree and the tea plant used for consumption (Camellia sinensis) are entirely different plants.
