Crosshead Pin Installation Procedure
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Thoroughly clean all dirt and contamination, removing any burrs or rough edges from the outer diameter of the crosshead, crosshead pin bores, and inner bore of the crosshead guide. Ensure the crosshead pin bore is completely dry to facilitate proper metal-to-metal contact in the taper bore connection.
Step 2: Eccentric Positioning
Position the "eye" of the eccentric at the opening in the side of the crosshead guide. Block the eccentric strap to ensure the crosshead clears the "eye" as it slides into position, aligning the crosshead pin holes properly. Refer to Figure 20 for visual guidance.
Step 3: Crosshead Installation Sequence
Install the left hand crosshead first, then rotate the crankshaft assembly to position the "eye" into the center crosshead while moving the right hand eccentric strap "eye" back. Remove the mud guard (Item 1 in Figure 21), and push the right crosshead toward the frame to create sufficient space for installing the mid-crosshead, followed by the right crosshead.
