Product Description
Explosive Welding Clad Metals for Zinc Smelting Applications
Explosive welding clad metals create low-resistance, high-strength joints between dissimilar metals, specifically designed for high-current, high-temperature, and mechanically stressful industrial environments.
Application in Potroom Operations
In zinc smelting potrooms, these specialized clads serve critical functions:
- Steel anode yokes are pre-welded to aluminum anode rods using bimetallic or trimetallic clads
- Anode clads provide preformed aluminum/steel joints for connecting aluminum rods to steel yokes
- Cathode/collector bars connect to aluminum flexibles in busbar systems through welded or bolted aluminum/steel or aluminum/copper cathode clads
- Anode ring busbar connects to aluminum anode stem via aluminum/copper clads
Technical Performance Advantages
Electrical Performance
The electrical resistance of transition inserts equals the series resistance of components, with no additional resistance or conductivity loss from the bonding process.
Mechanical Strength
Bond tensile strength exceeds aluminum strength: high-purity aluminum (85-90 MPa) vs. Pyrotek roll-bonded inserts (125+ MPa as-rolled).
Temperature Resistance
Aluminum-steel inserts operate safely at elevated temperatures, meeting ALCAN-Pechiney AP 18-30 standards:
Standard clads withstand consistent temperatures up to 400°C; chromium interlayer versions handle up to 500°C.
| Temperature | Minimum Requirement | Pyrotek Performance |
|---|---|---|
| 20°C Tensile Test | 150 MPa | 180+ MPa |
| 500°C Tensile Test | 85 MPa | 120+ MPa |
