Product Description
Explosive Welding Copper Aluminium Bimetal Sheet
Copper Aluminium Trimetallic Busbar Clads are high-performance explosive welding clad metals that create low-resistance, high-strength joints between dissimilar metals. These specialized components are engineered for demanding applications in high-current, high-temperature, and mechanically stressful industrial environments.
Industrial Applications
In potroom operations, steel anode yokes are pre-welded to aluminium anode rods using bimetallic or trimetallic clads. These preformed aluminium/steel joints enable secure connections between aluminium rods and steel yokes, providing reliable performance under elevated temperatures, mechanical stress, and high current density conditions.
Cathode/collector bars connect to aluminum flexibles within busbar systems through welded or bolted aluminum/steel or aluminum/copper cathode clads. The anode ring busbar interfaces with aluminium anode stems via specialized aluminium/copper clads.
Explosive Welding Technology
Explosive welding creates permanent metallurgical bonds between dissimilar metals, ensuring 100% electrical continuity. The bond interface exhibits characteristics of contiguous metal, providing superior performance and reliability.
Technical Advantages
Electrical Performance
The electrical resistance of transition inserts matches the series resistance of the component materials. No additional resistance or conductivity loss occurs at the bond interface due to the advanced welding process.
Mechanical Strength
Bond tensile strength exceeds 125 MPa, surpassing the 85-90 MPa strength of high-purity aluminium. This ensures exceptional durability and structural integrity.
Temperature Resistance
Aluminium-steel inserts operate safely at elevated temperatures, meeting rigorous testing standards:
Test Condition Minimum Requirement Typical Performance
20°C Tensile Test 150 MPa 180+ MPa
500°C Tensile Test 85 MPa 120+ MPa
Standard clads withstand consistent temperatures up to 400°C, while chromium-interlayer variants handle temperatures up to 500°C.
