ATM Technology History
ATM technology originated in 1960 when First National City Bank (now Citibank) introduced the "bankograph" for utility bill payments. The first cash-dispensing machine appeared in London in 1967, converting paper vouchers into cash. Magnetic card technology debuted in 1969 at New York's Chemical Bank with the Docuteller machine. Despite initial resistance due to cost concerns, Docutel released the first true full-function bank ATM, the "Total Teller," in 1971.
