Silicon carbide (SiC) is a covalent compound composed of carbon (C) and silicon (Si) with very strong covalent bonds. Silicon carbide has a series of advantages such as high thermal conductivity, high hardness, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, and low price. It is widely used as an abrasive in industrial grinding processes. 

Black silicon carbide is produced at high temperature in an electric resistance type furnace with quarts sand and petroleum coke as its main raw marterials .Its hardness is between fused alumina and synthetic diamond.Mechanical intensity of it is higher than fused alumina .It is brittle and sharp has electrical and heat conductivity in some degree.

 

Function

it is widely used in glass industry, ceramic industry, stone industry, refractory industry, iron industry, non-ferrous industry and so on. Green silicon carbide has good self-sharpening, and is mostly used for processing hard alloy, titanium alloy and optical glass, and also for honing cylinder liner and accurate grinding HSS tool.

Silicon carbide has stable chemical property, high thermal conductivity coefficient, small thermal expansion coefficient and good abrasion resistance.
