Black silicon carbide is produced at high temperature in an electric resistance type furnace with quarts sand and petroleum coke as its main raw materials.

Black silicon carbide can be used as metallurgical deoxidizer and high temperature resistant materials in smelting. Silicon carbide is also suitable for practicing BOF steel plant with a warming agent, also used for cast iron and ductile iron inoculant production of addictives.
