Product Description

Glycol Flash Vessel (Pressure Vessel) ASME Standards Stainless Steel SA240 S.S. 304/Cladding Material SA516 GR.60/70 With Stainless steel cladding

A Glycol Flash Vessel is a critical component in natural gas processing systems, particularly in glycol dehydration units. Its primary purpose is to separate hydrocarbons and other volatile components from the rich glycol solution after it has absorbed water from the natural gas stream. Here's an overview of its function and operation:

Purpose of the Glycol Flash Vessel

Separation of Hydrocarbons: During the dehydration process, the glycol (typically triethylene glycol or TEG) absorbs not only water but also some hydrocarbons and other impurities from the natural gas. The flash vessel allows these hydrocarbons to separate from the glycol solution.

Pressure Reduction: The rich glycol solution is depressurized in the flash vessel, causing the dissolved hydrocarbons to vaporize and separate from the liquid glycol.

Recovery of Hydrocarbons: The separated hydrocarbons can be recovered and sent to a fuel gas system or further processing, improving efficiency and reducing emissions.

How It Works

Rich Glycol Inlet: The glycol solution, now rich with absorbed water and hydrocarbons, enters the flash vessel.

Pressure Drop: The pressure is reduced in the vessel, allowing the lighter hydrocarbons to vaporize and separate from the glycol.

Gas-Liquid Separation: The vaporized hydrocarbons rise to the top of the vessel and are removed, while the liquid glycol settles at the bottom.

Glycol Outlet: The degassed glycol is then sent to the glycol reboiler for regeneration (water removal).

Hydrocarbon Outlet: The separated hydrocarbons are typically sent to a fuel gas system or flare.

Key Design Features

Pressure Control: The vessel operates at a lower pressure than the contactor to facilitate the release of hydrocarbons.

Liquid Level Control: A level controller ensures the glycol is maintained at the correct level for proper separation.

Mist Eliminator: A mist eliminator or demister pad is often installed to prevent glycol carryover with the hydrocarbon gas.

Safety Features: Pressure relief devices and flame arrestors may be included for safety.

Applications

Glycol flash vessels are commonly used in:

Natural gas dehydration systems

Gas processing plants

Offshore platforms

Pipeline compression stations

Benefits

Improves glycol regeneration efficiency.

Reduces hydrocarbon losses.

Enhances safety by preventing hydrocarbon buildup in the glycol system.
