Structural Basis: The Big Turntable is essentially an oversized slewing ring bearing. It consists of inner and outer large steel gear rings. Between these rings are precisely arranged hardened raceways filled with tough steel balls or rollers.

Drive Core: A pinion gear, driven by a swing motor (usually hydraulic), meshes tightly with the outer or inner gear ring of the Big Turntable (depending on design).

Operation: When the operator activates the swing control, the hydraulic system drives the swing motor to rotate. The motor turns its output shaft, which drives the pinion gear. This pinion gear engages with the large gear ring on the Big Turntable. Because the pinion gear is fixed to the upper structure frame and the large gear ring is attached to the lower undercarriage frame (or vice versa), the rotation of the pinion gear around the large gear ring forces the entire upper structure (cab, boom, etc.) to rotate around the central axis of the Big Turntable fixed to the undercarriage.
