There are some differences between ER308 and ER308L stainless steel welding wires in chemical composition, performance and application range. The following is a detailed comparison of the two:


1. Chemical composition
ER308 stainless steel welding wire: The main component is 18Cr-8Ni, which contains about 18% chromium (Cr) and 8% nickel (Ni).


ER308L stainless steel welding wire: The main component is ultra-low C-18Cr-8Ni, that is, ultra-low carbon stainless steel welding wire, which contains similar chromium and nickel content as ER308, but lower carbon (C) content.


2. Performance characteristics
ER308 stainless steel welding wire:
The deposited metal has excellent mechanical properties and resistance to intergranular corrosion.
The crack resistance is also strong.


ER308L stainless steel welding wire:
Due to the lower carbon content, the deposited metal has better resistance to intergranular corrosion.
