1. Structural Configuration

Cross-shaped columns (cruciform sections) are fabricated by welding four steel plates into a "+" configuration, combining the advantages of H-sections and box columns. Typical dimensions include:

• ‌Flange width‌: 200-800mm (standard series: C200×200 to C800×800)
• ‌Plate thickness‌: 12-40mm (Grade Q355B/Q460C)
• ‌Fillet welds‌: 8-20mm leg length (AWS D1.8 Class CP)

‌Key components‌:

• ‌Web plates‌: Main load-bearing elements (σ_max ≤ 0.8Fy)
• ‌Flange plates‌: Enhance buckling resistance (λ ≤ 0.45√(E/Fy))
• ‌Stiffeners‌: Horizontal diaphragms @ 1.5m intervals

2. Material & Fabrication

‌Base materials‌:

• Chinese standard: Q355B
• International equivalents: ASTM A572 Gr.50 (Fy=345MPa) / EN 10025 S355

‌Fabrication process‌:

1. CNC plasma cutting (tolerance ±1.5mm)
2. Submerged arc welding (SAW) with ER70S-6 wire
3. Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT @ 580-620°C)
4. Shot blasting to SA 2.5 cleanliness
