Sealed valve-regulated lead-acid battery is a common type of lead-acid battery. It is sealed and maintenance-free through special design and is widely used in UPS, communication equipment, electric vehicles and other fields.

Structure:

- Positive plate: lead dioxide (PbO₂).

- Negative plate: pure lead (Pb) in sponge form.

- Electrolyte: dilute sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), adsorbed in a glass fiber separator (AGM battery) or gel (GEL battery).

- Safety valve: automatically opens to vent when internal pressure is too high to prevent battery expansion or rupture.

Working principle:

- Discharge: The positive and negative plates react with sulfuric acid to generate lead sulfate (PbSO₄) and water, releasing electrical energy.

- Charging: The reverse reaction, lead sulfate is reduced to lead and lead dioxide, and the electrolyte concentration is restored.

Oxygen recombination reaction: During charging, the oxygen generated by the positive electrode diffuses to the negative electrode through the pores of the separator, reacts with lead to generate lead oxide and further converts into water, realizing internal gas circulation and reducing water loss.
