Electro-Hydraulic Proportional (EHP) Variable Displacement Pump:
This represents the integration of electronic control with the fundamental axial piston swashplate pump, enabling precise digital command of hydraulic power in advanced excavators. The core pump structure remains that of a variable displacement axial piston pump. The revolutionary difference lies in replacing the traditional hydraulic servo control for the swashplate with an electro-hydraulic proportional valve (often a solenoid-operated directional valve with proportional spool movement). Principle: An electronic control unit (ECU) receives signals from the operator's joysticks, engine controllers, pressure sensors, and other machine parameters. Based on this input and sophisticated control algorithms, the ECU sends a proportional electrical current to the solenoid(s) on the proportional valve. This current precisely positions the valve spool, which then meters pilot hydraulic fluid to one side or the other of the swashplate servo piston. The position of the servo piston, and thus the swashplate angle and pump displacement, is directly proportional to the electrical command signal. Structurally, it integrates the proportional control valve block directly onto or adjacent to the pump housing, linked to the swashplate mechanism.
