Product Overview
The ion-selective electrode (ISE) is a membrane electrode that generates membrane potential through ion exchange or diffusion. It consists of an ion-selective membrane, internal reference electrode (Ag/AgCl), and internal reference solution. The ISE measures electrical potential of specific ions in solution relative to a reference electrode, enabling quantitative analysis through potential difference measurements.

Pre-Measurement Preparation
- Remove protective cap from electrode tip (avoid touching sensitive area)
- Shake electrode downward to remove internal air bubbles
- Activate new or unused electrodes in 1 ppm standard solution for 24 hours
- Rinse with deionized water and blot dry with non-woven cloth
- Immerse electrode tip in deionized water for 5 minutes with stirring before testing
Calibration Procedure
- Connect electrode to meter and pour 100 mL deionized water into 150 mL beaker
- Set meter to mV mode and immerse dried electrode in deionized water
- Add 1 mL of 1000 ppm standard solution, stir, and record stable reading (E₁)
- Add 10 mL of same standard solution, stir, and record stable reading (E₂)
- Calculate slope at 25°C as E₂ - E₁ and compare with specifications
Troubleshooting & Storage
If slope deviates from specifications, prepare fresh diluted standard solution and soak electrode for 10 minutes before retesting. For short-term storage, preserve in deionized water or 1 ppm standard solution. For long-term storage, rinse thoroughly, dry completely, and store in original packaging.
