Biological Deodorization Box is an innovative biofilm reactor that has gained significant attention from researchers in recent years. It was developed through complex operations including fluidizing the carrier, clogging the submerged biological filter, cleaning filter material, and replacing aerators.
The design enables continuous operation without clogging or backwashing, featuring small head loss and large specific surface area. This is achieved by growing biofilms on smaller support units that move freely with the water flow in the reactor.
In the box, the carrier is moved by aeration, while in anoxic/anaerobic reactors, mechanical stirring moves the carrier. A porous filter at the reactor outlet prevents packing loss. The MBBR typically features a cuboid or cylindrical structure, with the cuboid version often divided into grids for optimal flow conditions.
