Square shafts consist of solid square sections ranging from 1.5 inches to 2 inches in size. These piles are primarily designed for ultimate loads between 100 and 650 kN (25-150 kips), although they have been tested to withstand loads exceeding 900 kN (200 kips) in specific circumstances.

Square shaft piles are typically utilized in small to moderate loading applications and offer excellent resistance to tension. They are particularly effective in penetrating dense and cobble-rich soil compared to their helical pipe pile counterparts. However, they exhibit lower resistance to buckling and provide minimal lateral load resistance.

In scenarios where tension is the primary concern, Square Shaft Piers are highly recommended. These piers offer several advantages over standard square shaft anchors, including enhanced stability and greater load-bearing capacity. Their design allows for more efficient installation and better performance in challenging soil conditions, making them a superior choice for applications requiring robust tension support.
