The concept of "wet-strength" implies that during the manufacturing of the base paper prior to metallization, a chemical additive is employed. This chemical enhances the bonding strength of wood fibers specifically when the paper is fully immersed in water. In its dry state, the wet-strength chemical has minimal impact on the paper's properties. However, when wet, the paper exhibits increased durability, resisting breakage, tearing, and abrasion damage. The standard method for evaluating paper's wet strength involves using an Instron-type testing machine to measure the tensile strength of paper strips. This assessment is conducted both in the dry condition and after the strips have been soaked in water for five minutes.
