A: This is often due to a worn clutch bearing. As the engine speeds up, the bearing spins faster, and the wear causes a whirring sound that gets louder with speed. Another possible reason is a loose fan blade—when it spins faster, the loose blade vibrates and makes noise. Checking the bearing and fan blade tightness can fix the issue.

Q: Is it necessary to drain the silicone oil before replacing a mechanical fan clutch?
A: No, it’s not required. Most mechanical fan clutches are sealed units— the silicone oil is inside and can’t be drained easily. When you replace the old clutch, you just remove the whole unit (with the oil inside) and install the new one. You don’t need to handle the oil separately, which also avoids messy spills.

Q: Why does a fan clutch’s "fan blade" wobble after installation?
A: Wobble usually comes from loose mounting bolts (not tightened to torque specs), deformed blades (unbalanced rotation), or excessive bearing clearance. Tighten bolts to the manufacturer’s torque. Inspect blades—replace if deformed. Measure bearing clearance; replace the bearing if it exceeds limits. Fixing these issues eliminates wobble, prevents noise, and reduces bearing wear.
