AISI 316L stainless steel plate UNS S31603 is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance, particularly suitable for marine environments and chemical industries. The addition of molybdenum (Mo) enhances its resistance to chloride environments, while its low carbon content prevents intergranular corrosion.
316L stainless steel maintains good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance even in high-temperature environments, making it ideal for high-temperature equipment and pipelines. It is widely used in chemical processing due to its superior acid and alkali resistance.
Available in both ASTM and JIS standards, 316L stainless steel plates differ slightly in nickel content (10-14% for ASTM vs. 12-15% for JIS), which affects pricing. Customers should specify their preferred standard when ordering.

- Chemical Industry: Used in fertilizer production, petrochemicals, synthetic fibers, and manufacturing of corrosion-resistant pipes, containers, and heat exchangers.
- Marine Engineering: Ideal for ship components, offshore platform structures, and piping systems due to excellent seawater corrosion resistance.
- Food Processing: Suitable for food processing equipment, storage tanks, and conveyor systems thanks to its hygiene and corrosion resistance.
- Other Applications: Includes cookware, surgical instruments, aerospace components, automotive parts, and industrial equipment.
316L stainless steel cannot be heat-treated for strengthening and doesn't require post-weld annealing. It features excellent work hardening properties and is non-magnetic, making it suitable for complex shapes. For maintenance, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures and corrosive media, and conduct regular inspections to ensure long-term performance.
