904L (N08904, 14539) super austenitic stainless steel contains 14.0-18.0% chromium, 24.0-26.0% nickel, and 4.5% molybdenum. This low-carbon, high nickel, molybdenum austenitic stainless steel has excellent activation passivation transformation ability and corrosion resistance.

The low carbon content (≤0.020%) prevents carbide precipitation during heat treatment and welding, eliminating intergranular corrosion risk. The high chromium-nickel-molybdenum content with copper addition enables passivation even in reducing environments like sulfuric and formic acids.
Operating temperature reaches 40°C in 0-98% sulfuric acid and shows excellent resistance in 0-85% phosphoric acid. While limited to 1-2% concentration in hydrochloric acid, it outperforms conventional stainless steels. The high nickel content reduces corrosion in pits/crevices and provides exceptional stress corrosion cracking resistance in chloride solutions, concentrated hydroxide, and hydrogen sulfide-rich environments.
