Chromium Passivation Agent AL-402 For Aluminum Alloy
AL-402 is a concentrated liquid formulation designed for trivalent chromium passivation of aluminum materials. This advanced solution provides superior corrosion resistance compared to traditional hexavalent chromium processes and is suitable for various aluminum alloys and castings.
Usage Method
Solution Preparation
- Dilute with deionized water at concentration: 200ml AL-402 per liter
- Thoroughly clean tanks before use - new tanks require 10% sulfuric acid cleaning followed by water rinse
- Add measured AL-402 and deionized water, mix evenly
- Adjust pH to 3.9 using 5% sulfuric acid or 1% sodium hydroxide solutions

Solution Maintenance
Regular analysis and pH measurement are essential for maintaining optimal concentration and pH levels. Impurities may accumulate in inventory but do not affect product quality or performance.
Consumption Rate
15-25 ml of concentrated solution required per square meter of processed material (including removed portions).
Processing Solution Concentration Determination
Sample Preparation
- Collect samples in uniformly mixed state
- Cool naturally to room temperature
- If cloudy, perform decanting or filtration after standing
Required Reagents
- 10% sodium hydroxide
- 30% hydrogen peroxide
- 17% hydrochloric acid
- Potassium iodide
- 0.1N sodium thiosulfate solution
- 1% starch solution
Analytical Procedure
- Transfer 100ml passivation solution to 250ml conical flask
- Add 20ml 10% sodium hydroxide and 5ml hydrogen peroxide
- Stir for 5 minutes
- Add additional 5ml hydrogen peroxide and stir 5 more minutes
- Boil solution 30-40 minutes (maintain minimum 50ml volume)
- Cool to room temperature and add 100ml deionized water
- Filter with precision filter paper and wash with 5ml deionized water
- Add 40ml 17% hydrochloric acid to filtrate
- Add 1g potassium iodide
- Titrate with 0.1N sodium thiosulfate until pale yellow
- Add starch solution and continue titration until blue color disappears
