The instrument employs a torsion wire mechanism where a platinum ring is immersed in the test liquid. As the liquid container descends, the film between the platinum ring and liquid stretches, creating downward force that twists the torsion wire. A sensor measures this displacement, converting it to voltage that is processed and displayed as the tension value. The actual surface tension is calculated as V = P × F, where P is the measured value and F is the liquid correction factor.
