Innovative PUR Reactive Hot Melt Adhesives for Modern Car Seat Assembly
Advanced PUR hot melt adhesive systems have become the mainstream solution for laminating leather and fabric in automotive seat manufacturing. By balancing process efficiency, long-term durability, seating comfort, and environmental compliance, PUR technology plays a critical and irreplaceable role in modern automotive seating systems.
Features: excellent bonding strength, resistant for heat, chemical corrosion and aging, adjustable adhesion and flexibility
Process Flow
→ Preheating the foam (30–50 °C)
→ PUR hot melt adhesive application (roller, spray, or slot coating)
→ Placement of leather or fabric
→ Pressing and shaping
→ Cooling and initial processing
→ Moisture curing (final strength reached after approx. 24 hours)
- High initial strength: Fabric does not shift after lamination, suitable for assembly line operation
- Good flexibility: Retains elasticity after curing, adapting to deformation during trunk lid opening/closing
- Temperature resistance: Withstands in-vehicle environment from -40℃ to 120℃
- Humidity/aging resistance: Passes high-temperature/high-humidity and thermal cycling tests
- Eco-friendly, low VOC: Meets automotive interior FOG/VOC requirements
- Wide substrate compatibility: Bonds well with fiberboard, porous substrates, and nonwoven fabrics
| Component | PUR Function | Technical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Instrument Panels | Skin-to-foam bonding | Prevents delamination during airbag deployment |
| Door Panels | Vinyl/leather wrapping | Eliminates wrinkles; withstands 10+ years UV exposure |
| Headliners | Fabric-to-substrate lamination | 0.1mm ultra-thin glue lines maintain fabric drape |
| Seat Assembly | Foam-to-frame fixation | 50% faster curing vs. urethane foams (increased line speed) |
| Acoustic Insulation | Felt/fiber pad mounting | Reduces glue usage 40% vs. spray adhesives |
- Packaging: 20kg or 200kg barrels
- Store in sealed containers, away from moisture and direct sunlight
- Shelf life: 6-12 months depending on product
- Requires specialized melters and dispensing systems designed for PU
Automotive Industry Trends and Technology Development
- Lightweighting: Low-density foams combined with high-performance PUR
- Process integration: Inline lamination to reduce process steps
- Sustainability: Bio-based PUR systems and compatibility with recyclable materials
- Smart manufacturing: Precision spraying and data-driven process control
PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) hot melt adhesive is a reactive curing adhesive. It first bonds like a thermoplastic hot melt when cooled, then chemically reacts with ambient moisture to form a crosslinked polyurethane network.
Yes. Formulated PUR adhesives are solvent-free, low-VOC, and compliant with RoHS and REACH regulations.
Store in sealed containers, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
