SA179 is an ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standard for seamless cold-drawn carbon steel tubes, ideal for heat transfer applications with moderate temperature and pressure conditions.
In petrochemical plants, the primary function of ASME SA179 carbon steel tubes is to facilitate efficient heat exchange between process fluids. They are extensively used in the tube side of various heat exchangers, condensers, and evaporators to cool high-temperature process gases, condense steam, or heat low-temperature media. Due to their low carbon content, SA179 tubes exhibit exceptional thermal conductivity, enabling rapid heat transfer and significantly improving exchange efficiency. Their seamless structure ensures uniformity and leak-tight integrity, allowing them to withstand certain internal pressures and prevent fluid leakage. Although their corrosion resistance is limited, they perform reliably when handling non-corrosive or mildly corrosive media (such as cooling water or low-pressure steam), and their service life can be extended through proper system design and water treatment.
