VP/Hexadecene copolymer the molecular formula is C22H41NO, with a molecular weight of 335.58. It is copolymerized from hydrophilic n-vinylpyrrolidone (VP) and hydrophobic Cetene (C₁₆ olefin). It is an oil-soluble polymer. It appears as a light yellow to yellow viscous liquid and is insoluble in water.
VP/Hexadecene copolymer is commonly used as a film-forming agent in cosmetics. It can provide moisture and offer waterproof properties to sunscreen and other cosmetics. It can act as a moisturizing barrier, providing excellent pigment dispersion, especially in skin care creams and cosmetics such as mascara. It can also be used as an emulsifying stabilizer to enhance the effect of antiperspirants.
