What is Glutathione?
Glutathione (r-glutamyl cysteinyl glycine, GSH) is composed of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, and is present in almost every cell of the body.
Glutathione exists in two forms: reduced (G-SH) and oxidized (G-S-S-G), with reduced glutathione being the predominant form under physiological conditions. Glutathione reductase can catalyze the interconversion between the two forms, and its coenzyme can also provide NADPH for the pentose phosphate bypass metabolism.
