Hard anodizing is a specialized surface treatment for aluminum and aluminum alloys that creates a thick oxide film up to 250 microns. Key characteristics include:
- Microhardness of 1500 kg/mm² on pure aluminum (400-600 kg/mm² on alloys)
- Poor thermal conductivity with 2050°C melting point
- High resistivity with breakdown voltage up to 2000V after sealing
- Excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance and wear resistance
