Hard Anodizing Definition

Hard anodizing is a specialized surface treatment for aluminum and aluminum alloys that creates a thick oxide film up to 250 microns. Key characteristics include:

  • Microhardness of 1500 kg/mm² on pure aluminum (400-600 kg/mm² on alloys)
  • Poor thermal conductivity with 2050°C melting point
  • High resistivity with breakdown voltage up to 2000V after sealing
  • Excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance and wear resistance
  • Strong bonding with substrate metal
