The Crouse-Hinds series MTL TP48 surge protection device safeguards field-mounted process transmitters where it matters, right at the unit. After a simple installation (the TP48 screws into an unused conduit entry, with no additional modification), it provides high-level protection against surges and transients while normal operation remains unaffected.
The TP48 resets itself automatically after each operation. The device is available with screw threads to suit different transmitters, with explosion-proof and intrinsically safe options for hazardous areas. Working voltage is 48V dc maximum with impulse ratings of 10kA peak current and 10kV peak voltage.
Approvals for intrinsically safe, flameproof, explosion-proof and non-incendive operation are available, in all gas groups and apparatus temperature classifications up to T6. For Functional Safety applications TP24/7 surge protection devices can be considered as wiring components that pass the process signals without alteration. Information is provided in the Functional Safety manual to assist in the selection and application of MTL surge protection devices for instrumentation signals that are being used to provide functional safety according to the latest IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards.
