Cad Design-High Precision-Production-Oriented-Efficient Adjustment
Cad Design
The production of patients' teeth using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is a core technology in modern digital dentistry, which revolutionizes the precision, efficiency and personalization of dental restoration. This process starts with the acquisition of high-precision 3D intraoral data, usually obtained through intraoral scanners that capture detailed information of the patient’s oral cavity, including the shape, size, occlusion relationship and surrounding soft tissues of the remaining teeth, edentulous areas and alveolar ridges, with an accuracy of up to 20 microns, laying a solid foundation for subsequent design.
After data acquisition, the scanned 3D model is imported into professional dental CAD software (such as 3Shape, exocad and Cerec). Dental technicians or dentists then conduct personalized design according to the patient’s oral anatomy, occlusion habits and aesthetic needs. The key features of CAD tooth design include high precision, strong personalization, efficient adjustment and close integration with clinical needs. It can accurately replicate the natural tooth’s morphology, texture and color, ensuring that the restored tooth is consistent with the patient’s original teeth in terms of shape, size and occlusion, and achieving both functional and aesthetic effects.
During the design process, technicians can adjust the marginal fit, proximal contact and occlusal relationship of the restoration in real time, avoiding the defects of traditional manual production such as poor marginal fit and inconsistent occlusion. In addition, CAD technology supports the design of various dental restorations, including crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays and implant abutments, which can meet the diverse restoration needs of different patients. After the design is completed, the digital model is output as an STL file, which can be directly connected to Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) equipment for cutting or 3D printing, realizing the seamless connection between design and production, greatly shortening the production cycle and improving the quality and stability of dental restorations.
