High Strength ETP Tinplate Coil Double Reduced Tinplate (DR8 / DR9) For Can Making
Explore DR tinplate (DR8, DR9) for beverage cans and high-speed production lines. High strength, reduced thickness, excellent formability. Custom specifications available.
Double Reduced Tinplate (DR material) is a special type of ETP tinplate produced through an additional cold rolling process after annealing. This process significantly increases the strength of the steel while reducing thickness, making it ideal for lightweight and high-speed packaging applications.
Compared with standard tinplate (SR), DR tinplate offers higher yield strength and improved stiffness, allowing manufacturers to reduce material consumption without compromising performance.

| Surface Finish | ||
|---|---|---|
| Classification | Symbol | Specific Feature |
| Bright Finish | B | A luster finish provided by a flow-melted tin coating on a smoothly finished steel based with grindstone-pattern. |
| Stone Finish | R | A luster finish provided by a flow-melted tin coating on a steel base characterized by a directional grindstone-pattern. |
| Silver Finish | S | A luster finish provided by a flow-melted tin coating on a coarse dull-finished steel base. |
| Matte Finish | M | A dull finish usually provided by an unflow-melted tin coating on a dull finished steel base. |
DR tinplate (such as DR8 / DR9) provides significantly higher strength than standard grades, enabling thinner material usage and cost savings.
Typical range:
- Thickness: 0.14–0.30 mm
- Temper: DR7, DR8, DR9
Designed for modern can-making lines, DR material ensures:
- Stable forming in high-speed stamping
- Reduced deformation
- Consistent product quality
By using thinner gauges with higher strength, manufacturers can:
- Reduce raw material costs
- Lower transportation weight
- Improve sustainability
Despite higher strength, DR tinplate maintains:
- Smooth surface finish
- Good lacquer adhesion
- Suitable for branded packaging

A: DR stands for Double Reduced, meaning the steel is cold rolled twice to increase strength.
