Product Description
Product Description

RG401 is a MIL-DTL-17 compliant semi-rigid coaxial cable designed for high frequency applications requiring precise impedance control and 100% shielding effectiveness. Unlike flexible or formable coax cables, this 0.250" diameter semi-rigid cable features a solid copper outer conductor that maintains exact spacing between the center conductor and dielectric, delivering consistent 50 Ohm impedance from DC to 19 GHz.

The cable is constructed with a 1.63mm silver-plated copper solid inner conductor, PTFE dielectric at 5.27mm, and a solid copper outer conductor at 6.35mm overall diameter. The semi-rigid outer conductor provides shielding effectiveness exceeding 110 dB, effectively eliminating EMI/RFI interference and making RG401 suitable for high power and sensitive signal applications.

With 3,000V operating voltage (7,500V dielectric withstanding), 69.5% velocity of propagation, and 95-97 pF/m nominal capacitance, RG401 delivers reliable RF transmission up to 19 GHz. At 1 GHz, attenuation is 0.23 dB/m; at 10 GHz, 0.89 dB/m. Power handling at 1 GHz is 914.6W CW, derating to 238.2W at 10 GHz.

FAQ
Q: What is the M17 part number for RG401?
A: M17/129-RG401 (or M17/129-00001) is the official MIL-DTL-17 part number for this MIL-DTL-17 compliant cable.
Q: What makes RG401 different from flexible coax cables like RG393?
A: RG401 is a semi-rigid coaxial cable with a solid copper tube outer conductor. Once bent, it holds its shape and cannot be repeatedly flexed. This construction provides 100% shielding coverage (>110 dB) and superior phase stability. Flexible coax cables use braided shields that allow repeated bending but offer lower shielding effectiveness (typically 60-80 dB).
Q: What is the maximum frequency for this MIL-DTL-17 compliant cable?
A: 19 GHz for mode-free operation. The precision spacing maintained by the solid outer conductor allows clean performance through K-band.
Q: Can RG401 be bent multiple times?
A: No, this is a semi-rigid coaxial cable designed to be bent once into shape during installation. Repeated bending will work-harden the copper outer conductor and may cause cracks or impedance variations.
Q: What connectors are compatible with RG401?
A: SMA, N-Type, TNC, and 2.92mm connectors designed for 0.250" semi-rigid cable. SMA is most common for this cable size. Precision assembly requires soldering the center pin and careful outer conductor preparation.
Q: Do you offer custom lengths?
A: Yes, we accept OEM & ODM orders. RG401 is available in bulk spools, cut lengths, or fully assembled with connectors.
