How to Check ABS Wheel Speed Sensor

1. Visual Inspection:Check the sensor harness, connector and probe for damage, aging, looseness or water ingress. Clean dirt and metal debris on the sensor surface.
2. Resistance Test:Disconnect the plug and measure internal resistance with a multimeter. Abnormal resistance means open circuit or short circuit.
3. Signal Voltage Test:Rotate the wheel slowly and test AC signal voltage. Normal sensor outputs stable varying voltage.
4. Diagnostic Scanner Test:Use professional scanner to read ABS trouble codes and wheel speed data. No speed signal indicates fault.
5. Check Gear Ring & Gap:Inspect the tone ring for rust, crack or deformation. Keep reasonable clearance between sensor and gear ring.
